A new bakery has opened in Hillsboro.
Baked opened Feb. 11 at 10667 Business 21.
Owners Breanna Willhelm, 24, and Morgan Tanner, 25, both of Crystal City, said their bakery offers a variety of baked goods and beverages.
“We’re a funkadelic bakery and beverage house that provides inclusive, handcrafted options for all,” Tanner said. “We have low-sugar, gluten-free and vegan. For people outside of that, we have plenty of baked goods with sugar, milk and fat.”
They said their menu will change regularly.
“We have a core menu, with specialty items we’ll alternate each week,” Willhelm said. “Our staple is our Mr. Chip Double Chip Cookie.”
“It’s our signature chocolate chip cookie,” Tanner said. “It’s made with Breanna’s secret recipe.”
Willhelm said some of the other featured items include a Savory Scone, Baller Jars (personal jars of cheesecake) and “homemade pop tarts.”
The business also offers a variety of coffee drinks.
“We will have drink specials paired with our baked goods,” Tanner said. “All of our syrups for our coffee beverages are house-made, only with the finest ingredients. We have a completely full espresso menu including lattes, cappuccinos and our signature beverages that include our house-made syrups. The Pink Flamingo is a raspberry mocha latte.
“We also have smoothies and tea lattes. A staple from our teas is our Janis, after Janis Joplin, which is a vanilla bean chai. Don’t be afraid and make her dirty with a shot of espresso.”
They serve Park Avenue Coffee.
“We are bringing air-roasted coffee to the community,” Willhelm said. “It’ a crisper-bodied coffee.”
Willhelm and Tanner said they can bake items to order.
“We do catering for weddings, parties and other special occasions,” Willhelm said. “We are a true no-limits bakery.”
“If you can dream it, we can make it,” Tanner said.
They said they already have a clientele.
“We have participated in the Crystal City Farmers Market,” Tanner said. “We were at the Farmers Market over the summer and we did Pevely Days and the (Kimmswick) Apple Butter Festival. We did great.”
Tanner and Willhelm will work at the shop, along with one employee, Kacie Neisler.
“We hope to expand our team and bring out additional help to bake, and baristas,” Willhelm said.
The bakery has a 1970s look, they said.
“Funkadelic is our theme,” Willhelm added.
Baked opens at 6 a.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and at 8 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays, and there are no set closing times, the women said.
“Since we are a bakery, (closing) will be on a sell-out basis,” Tanner said. “People will have to get it when it’s hot.”
The shop is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
