Waller chooses Warren Robinson, 26, as new county emergency management director

Jefferson County Executive Ken Waller on Monday (March 4) appointed 26-year-old Warren Robinson, a former emergency management specialist in southwest Missouri, to be Jefferson County’s new director of emergency management.

Waller said Robinson stood out among 30 applicants for the position despite his youth.

“He definitely has some good experience helping with the Joplin tornado and working on the East Coast with Hurricane Sandy,” Waller said. “He has some good hands-on experience.”

Robinson, who began his new job today Tuesday, will receive an annual salary of $60,000.

Waller said Robinson’s status is considered interim under the charter until the Jefferson County Council approves the appointment. He said he hopes to put Robinson’s appointment on a council agenda by the end of the month.

With council approval, Robinson will become the permanent emergency management director. Ed Kemp, the county’s former emergency management director, died Nov. 25, 2012. His salary was $71,414.

Since that time, deputy director Jina Akins served as interim emergency management director. She has returned to her deputy director position, Waller said.
