Twin City parade will kick off holiday season

Those serving their country are the focus of the 63rd annual Twin City Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade on Monday, Nov. 28, the first county parade of the season.

The theme of this year’s parade is “An Armed Forces Christmas; Welcome Home for the Holidays.”

Gayle Edwards of the chamber said the event is expected to once again draw hundreds of entrants and hordes of parade watchers.

“It usually brings in a minimum of 200 entries,” Edwards said. “There will be antique vehicles, floats, decorated motor units, walking units, marching bands and VIPs. Sometimes, there are equine entries.”

The deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Nov. 18. To enter or for more information, contact the chamber at 636-931-7697 or stop by the chamber office, 114 Main St., Festus.

The parade begins at 7 p.m. along Bailey Road/Main Street from Crystal City to Festus. Its starting point is Mississippi Avenue in Crystal City and its finishing point is Walnut Street in Festus.

Festus workers are shown putting up Christmas decorations on Main Street on Nov. 2.
