Two children and a woman received minor injuries in a fire today (July 26) at a home in the 7300 block of Dean Drive in Dittmer, says Greg Shuster, assistant chief of the Cedar Hill Fire Protection District.
The fire district got a call about the fire at 8:14 a.m.
A woman, man and some children were at the home when the fire broke out, Shuster said.
He said one of the children had minor burns and was transported to an area hospital.
The other child's arm was hurt while getting the family's dog off the deck, Shuster said.
The woman also received minor burns, he said.
Neither the woman nor the child with the hurt arm was taken to a hospital, Shuster said.
The American Red Cross assisted the family of seven with food, clothing and shelter.
The ranch-style home was seriously damaged and is uninhabitable, he said.
The fire appeared to have started in the basement of the home, but spread upstairs and into the attic, Shuster said.
Also, there was smoke and heat damage throughout the home, he said.
Shuster said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
No firefighters were hurt during the call, he said.
"We rotated crews because of the heat," Shuster said.
It took about two hours to get the blaze under control, he said.
Other fire districts helped with the call, including High Ridge, Pacific, Eureka and St. Clair, Shuster said.
The American Red Cross assisted the family of seven with food, clothing and shelter.
