Small kitchen fire closes High Ridge Jack in the Box temporarily

The Jack in the Box restaurant at 5300 Caroline Drive in High Ridge was closed down Monday evening (Oct. 22), following a small kitchen fire, says Mike Arnhart, chief of the High Ridge Fire Protection District.

Everyone was evacuated from the restaurant safely, and no one was hurt, he said.

The fire district got a call at 7:50 p.m. about the fire.

“We were on the scene within three minutes of the alarm,” Arnhart said. “When I got there, it (the restaurant) already had been evacuated.”

He said the damage was confined to a stove in the kitchen.

“There was a minimal amount of damage,” Arnhart said.

He said the restaurant had a fire suppression system that went off when the fire started.

“The suppression system did activate; however, there was grease buildup behind the stove, so we just used a small powder extinguisher to put that out.”

Arnhart said the restaurant had to remain closed until the suppression system could be recharged and the kitchen cleaned to eliminate the powder used to extinguish the fire.

He said he expected the restaurant to reopen sometime today (Oct. 23).
