The Rock Township Ambulance District presented outgoing board member Richard E. Bowers with a plaque Wednesday (March 28), recognizing his eight years of service to the district.
Bowers, 80, of Arnold, who has served on the board since 2004, said he decided it was time to retire from the board, so he didn’t seek re-election in the April 3 election.
“It’s been a good trip, but I’m getting too old for the battle,” he said. “You guys will make it without me. The world will keep turning.”
Six people have filed for the two open seats on the board. The other incumbent, Don Wieland, has filed for another three-year term. Others who have filed are Dean Meenach, Charles M. Huey, Anita Clark, Charlene Jansen and former Arnold councilman Robert D. “Bob” Lindsley.
Margie Sammons, chief of the ambulance district, thanked Bowers for his service and said he will be missed.
Board chairman Steve Ott and the other board members also thanked Bowers.
Bowers received the plaque at the board’s regular meeting. He said that may be the last meeting he attends. The board meets regularly on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
Rock Township serves northeastern Jefferson County, including Arnold, Imperial and Barnhart.
