A 50-year-old railroad worker from Jackson suffered a severe foot injury when he was hit by a Burlington-Northern Santa Fe Railroad train Monday morning (May 27) just south of Crystal City.
The area was so remote that emergency workers and police had to be brought in via a railtruck from the BNSF depot in Crystal City.
The unidentified man was brought out the same way and transported to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis by a Survival Flight helicopter, which picked him up at the depot.
The man told EMS personnel from the Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District that he had tripped on some rocks and fallen.
“After that, he wasn’t sure how the injury occurred,” said Curt Stueve, JPAD administrator.
Other workers radioed for help at 9:40 a.m.
The incident occurred about two miles from the depot, Stueve said.
