De Soto’s wrestling team hosted the Bob Georger Invitational tournament on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 25-26) and came away with the team title, scoring 279.5 points, well ahead of runner-up Sikeston at 232.5 in the 14-team field. The Dragons were powered by four individual champions: Alex Waggoner at 106 pounds, Cody Dedear at 113, Dalton Adams at 126 and Aaron Minx at 132. Other De Soto medalists were Bryan Warren (fourth at 120), Trae Adams (fourth at 126), Logan Ott (second at 138), Ryan Brooks (third at 160), Tyler Latham (second at 170) and Lucas Fann (third at 285).
Herculaneum finished third and had two champions, Nick Maxwell at 152 and Billy Duncan at 170. The Black Cats’ Brian Duncan, who had suffered only one defeat in 38 matches this season, lost his 285-pound title match to DeSmet’s Nick Wunderli 5-4 in double overtime. Windsor freshman Dirk Tucker (120) and senior Tyler Warren (160) won their weight classes to help the Owls to a fourth-place team finish, while Hillsboro came in seventh, paced by 220-pound champion Jarad Sheppard.
