Jefferson County to lose two of three Blockbuster stores; Festus store remaining open

Two of the three Blockbuster stores in Jefferson County are scheduled to close in early April, store representatives say.

The Arnold store and the High Ridge store will close, but the Festus store will remain open.

Both the Arnold and High Ridge stores won’t rent any more movies or games after Saturday (Feb. 9).

After that, the stores will sell off their merchandise, getting ready for the closings, which reportedly will be April 7.

The Arnold store is at 3860 Vogel Road, and the High Ridge store is at 1001 Crossroads Place. The Festus store, which is not closing, is at 332 Festus Center Drive.

The two closing stores are among several St. Louis area stores reportedly scheduled for closure.

Dish Network Corp, which bought the Blockbuster chain in a bankruptcy auction in 2010, reportedly has about 800 stores across the country and plans to close about 300 of them.

Last year, about 500 Blockbuster stores reportedly were closed.
