Brenden McKeon, a senior at De Soto High School, was recognized by the De Soto Board of Education at its meeting Tuesday (April 16) for his selection to the Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program that honors the state’s top 100 scholars.
As part of the program, McKeon will attend a luncheon in Columbia on April 28.
Principals around the state are asked to nominate students to the program, which is run by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals.
Students are selected based on a formula that includes grade-point average and score on the American College Test or Scholastic Aptitude Test.
To be considered, students had to meet 10 standards, which in addition to grade-point average and college admission test scores, include class ranking, enrollment in upper-level classes, attendance, activities and consideration as an exemplary school citizen.
McKeon, who scored a 35 on the ACT, has accepted an academic scholarship to attend Purdue University this fall, where he plans to study financial engineering.
He is president of the senior class, treasurer of the National Honor Society, is a member of the Student Council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also plays on the Dragons’ baseball team.
He is the son of Mike and Stacey McKeon of De Soto.
