Four-time DWI offender gets five-year sentence

Buddy Wayne Shoemaker, 43, of Imperial recently was sentenced to five years in prison for driving while intoxicated, according to court documents.

Shoemaker, formerly of De Soto, had three previous DWIs, the report said

On Feb. 14, 2010, he was driving under the influence of alcohol at Hwy. 21 and Rock Road in the De Soto area, according to the report.

Shoemaker pleaded guilty and was sentenced Jan. 16 by Jefferson County Div. 4 Circuit Judge Mark T. Stoll.

He also was sentenced that day to four years for driving with a suspended license, but those two sentences are to be served concurrently, or at the same time.

And, Shoemaker may be released early if he successfully completes a 120-day treatment program.

Shoemaker previously pleaded guilty to three other DWIs that occurred in Jefferson County – one in May 2009, another in December 2008 and one in 1997, the report said.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Angela D. Downing handled the case.
