Capt. Don Lassing of the Festus Police Department was recovering Monday (Oct. 17) in a South Dakota hospital after being shot Saturday in a hunting accident.
Lassing was taking part in an annual family pheasant hunting trip when he was shot, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
Lewis said Monday morning that Lassing was being transferred from intensive care to a step-down unit. The chief said Lassing took about 40 pellets to his face and chest from a distance of about 40 yards.
Lewis said the report from South Dakota was positive and that Lassing was expected to recover completely.
"We're all ecstatic," Lewis said Monday morning.
