An 8-year-old Festus boy was struck by a car while riding his bicycle June 27 in Crystal City.
He was treated for an elbow injury and a bump on the head and released from Mercy Jefferson Hospital in Crystal City.
Jackson Kaiser was bike-riding with his brother just before 7 p.m. , a police report stated, when he came out of an alley onto Fifth Street between Taylor and Jefferson avenues. He was struck by a westbound 1995 Buick driven by a 20-year-old Crystal City man.
“Luckily, the driver had slowed down when he saw the brother come out first,” Crystal City Police Chief Jeff McCreary said. “He did what you’re supposed to do – slow down when you see kids riding bikes.
“The (second) kid drove in front of the Buick and was struck.”
The driver was not charged.
