Johnny B. Kramer, 53, of Dittmer died from injuries he sustained in a one-vehicle accident that happened at 2:16 a.m. Saturday (April 27) at Hwy. 30 and Industrial Drive in Cedar Hill, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reports.
According to a witness interviewed at the scene, Kramer was driving west on Hwy. 30 in the right lane, veered a little to the right and struck a traffic signal post at the intersection with Industrial Drive, the report said.
The witness said it appeared the man did not skid or attempt to brake before striking the pole, according to the report.
After the crash, the man's vehicle caught fire, and three bystanders pulled him out. Then, a fourth person, a woman with medical training, attempted to revive the man, and he started breathing on his own, the report said.
The man, who "suffered severe chest trauma," was transported by ambulance to St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis County, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, said Capt. Ralph Brown of the Sheriff's Office.
It is unknown whether the man was wearing a seat belt, Brown said.
