A 22-year-old woman and 25-year-old man, both of Imperial, have been arrested for allegedly stealing a puppy from a home on Tenbrook Road in Arnold, said Major Nick McBroom of the Arnold Police Department.
The puppy, a pit bull, had been tied to a tree in the front yard.
At about 8:30 a.m. June 9, the owner found the dog gone, with just the collar left behind, the report said.
The victim told police she had seen a man and woman on June 6 petting the dog, and at that time they asked to buy it, but she refused to sell it to them, McBroom said.
Two days later, the couple stopped by and again asked about buying it, the woman told police, according to McBroom.
Between 2 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. the next day, the dog was stolen, the report said.
Later, the couple was seen in the neighborhood, and police questioned them. They were arrested on June 11, and the dog was returned to its owner, McBroom said.
He said police will seek felony charges through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
