Jefferson County schools delivered a double 1-2 punch at the Missouri high school cross country championships on Saturday (Nov. 3) at Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City. The Festus boys and the Herculaneum girls teams both won championships (Festus in Class 3, Herculaneum in Class 2) while the Festus girls finished second and the Herky boys also took second. The title in Class 3 was especially sweet for the Festus boys, who edged Warrensburg 58-65 one year after Warrensburg had beaten Festus for the Class 3 crown. Kaitlyn Fischer (pictured) led the Herculaneum girls by running away with the individual championship in 18:41, nearly a minute ahead of defending champion (and longtime Fischer rival) Saga Barzowski of Arcadia Valley.
