48-year-old receives 12-year sentence for stealing jewelry at Festus-area home

Mitchell L. Leach, 48, formerly of House Springs, recently was sentenced to 12 years in prison on burglary and stealing charges, according to court records.

In July 2010, Leach, a persistent offender, unlawfully entered a home in the 2000 block of Adare in the Festus area and stole jewelry worth at least $500, the report said.

Leach pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced Aug. 1 by Jefferson County Div. 6 Circuit Judge Troy Cardona.

He received a 12-year sentence for the burglary charge, as well as a 12-year term for the stealing charge, but the two sentences are to be served concurrently, or at the same time.

Jefferson County assistant prosecuting attorney Catherine M. Robertson handled the case.

Leach already was serving time in the correctional center in Bonne Terre at the time of the sentencing. The new sentence will be served concurrently with that prison term, according to the report.

He was convicted in July 2001 of burglary and stealing charges in St. Louis County and again in June 2004 of burglary charges in St. Louis County, court records show.
