Readers to choose the Holiday Recipe Contest winner
Leader Publications needs your help.
We have five finalists for the annual Holiday Recipe Contest, and we want you to pick the overall winner.
For more than two decades, the Leader has held the contest, inviting local cooks to show off their favorite holiday recipes.
Typically the Leader holds an in-person dinner at Jefferson College, and culinary students prepare and serve those dishes, offering attendees the chance to taste them and vote for their favorite.
No dinner could be held this year because of COVID-19, but the contest is still going strong, drawing nearly 60 entries.
The Leader staff voted and chose five tasty-sounding recipes as the finalists. Now it’s your turn to weigh in. Readers are encouraged to vote for their favorite.
Each of the five finalists will receive a $50 prize, and the top winner will receive an additional $50.
The Leader hopes to return with its Holiday Dinner at Jefferson College next year, but for this holiday season we hope you enjoy the recipes included in this special section.
The five finalists are:
Appetizer: Bangin’ Shrimp, Shonda Jenkins of Hillsboro.
Soup: Turkey Tortilla Soup, Cheryl Thorn Linneman of Hillsboro.
Salad: Grandma Myrtle’s 24-Hour Frozen Fruit Salad, Heidi Pimm of Arnold.
Side dish: Creamy Zucchini, Claudia Foran of House Springs.
Dessert: Pumpkin Layer Cake with Pumpkin/Apple Filling and Maple Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting.
