Serving residents: Veteran staff helps Autumn Ridge residents negotiate pandemic

The veteran staff at Autumn Ridge Residences, an independent living and residential care community in Herculaneum, was prepared to help residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our average (length of time working at Autumn Ridge) for our lead team is probably about 10 years,” said Mike Enloe, community relations director at the facility, 300 Autumn Ridge Drive. “What this means to our residents is we have a stable staff that allows us to provide the care our residents need.

“We’ve been able to adapt to the challenges that COVID-19 has presented. The experience of the staff allows us to continue to provide excellent care for our residents.”

Enloe pointed to Ashley Bessette, the dietary manager, as an example of the facility’s veteran staff. Bessette said she has been able to build relationships during her time working with the residents and can use what she has learned to benefit them.

“I’ve worked at Autumn Ridge for a total of 14 years,” Bessette said. “They’ll give me their family’s recipes or their own recipes they used in cooking. I’ve used the recipes to prepare meals for the whole community.”

Enloe said Bessette goes above the call of duty.

“Ashley takes it upon herself to make extra trips to see the residents to provide things like coffee and snacks,” he said.

Bessette said she appreciates Autumn Ridge and its residents.

“It’s the best facility I’ve worked at,” she said. “It’s like a big family.”

Enloe said Autumn Ridge is doing all it can to protect staff and residents from COVID.

“Autumn Ridge will continue to follow CDC (federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines to ensure that current and new residents stay safe during the pandemic,” he said.
