Hillsboro held the top seed in the Class 4 District 1 volleyball tournament at Cape Girardeau Central High and the Hawks (21-5) have won more matches each year since 2021.
But the eighth seed, De Soto, eliminated the Hawks in five sets, 17-25, 27-25, 18-25, 26-24, 15-11 Wednesday. The Dragons (7-17-2) play West Plains (4, 24-6-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the semifinals. Cape Central (2, 21-11-3) and Cape Notre Dame (3, 17-11-3) play in the other semifinal. The championship is Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m.
