As we approach the football season’s halfway point, Northwest is the only team from Jefferson County that is still unbeaten. It’s the Lions’ (4-0) best start in decades.
Northwest hosts Lafayette on Friday night. The Lancers (3-1) won their first three games this season, before a 14-12 loss to Eureka last week. Lafayette shut out the Lions 36-0 last season and 41-0 in the meeting before that in 2015.
Northwest is outscoring its opponents this year by an average of 32-10. The Lions held off a late Seckman rally on Friday to win 20-13.
Junior quarterback Trey Davis has passed for 451 yards and eight touchdowns against no interceptions for Northwest. Senior wide receivers Jack Watson (13 catches, 216) and Dalton Hografe (8-156) are Davis's top two pass catchers.
Freshman Chase Viehland leads the Lions in rushing with 43 carries for 249 yards.
Defensive lineman Johnny Daffron, a junior, is second in the St. Louis area with 11 sacks. Junior defensive back Brady Cutter has two fumble recoveries and an interception on an opportunistic Lion defense that’s forced 12 turnovers.
