Adkins Stadium

Pete Adkins Stadium was damaged by a tornado that hit Jefferson City on Wednesday night.

Extensive damage to Pete Adkins Stadium at Jefferson City High School from a tornado on Wednesday night has forced state officials to split up the Classes 3-5 track and field championships.

Jason West, communications director for the Missouri State High School Activities Association, said Thursday that the Class 3 boys and girls championships will be held at the University of Missouri at Columbia. The Class 4 championships are at Washington High School and Class 5 is at Battle High in Columbia.

Usually a two-day event, the track and field championships will be held and completed on Saturday at all three sites. The field events will begin at 9 a.m. And the track events will start at 10 a.m.

The roof covering the Adkins Stadium press box and MSHSAA’s operational area is mostly missing.

“It’s not a pretty sight. We sent out a message this morning asking anyone who might be traveling for (the state track meet) to stay put and not travel to Jefferson City so the local officials have room to do their job,” West said.
