The quarterfinal round of the 88th Missouri State High School Activities Association Wrestling Championships has concluded at the Mizzou Arena.
In Class 3, the Jefferson County Activities Association has three wrestlers in tonight’s semifinals. Windsor seniors Jacob Warren (152 pounds) and Ryan Yarnell (182), along with De Soto sophomore Landon Porter (heavyweight) advanced to the semifinals. Warren (43-0) is the defending state champion at 145 pounds. Yarnell (51-0) finished third at 182 last year. Porter advanced to state at 285 as a freshman but did not medal.
Warren will face Belton senior Joe Biondo (50-3) in the semifinals. Yarnell takes on Neosho senior Joey Williams (49-3) in his final four match, and Porter seeks his berth in the finals against Carl Junction senior Zeke Wall (37-9).
In Class 4, Seckman sophomore Skyler Akers (47-3) advanced to the 106-pound semifinals tonight against Liberty sophomore Jeremiah Reno (41-0). Defending state champion Kai Orine (48-2) is back in the semifinals for the Jaguars at 120 pounds. Orine goes against Lafayette junior Jaylen Carson in the semifinals. Seckman senior Cam Fusco (44-1) reached the semis at 126 against Park Hill senior Weston DiBlasi (44-2).
Eureka sent seven wrestlers to the Class 4 tournament. Senior Kyle Dickhaus (37-4) is in the semifinals at 182, as is teammate Matt Gentry (43-5) at 195. Dickhaus won his first two matches by fall and faces Park Hill junior Devin Winston (43-0) in the semifinals, with Gentry meeting Blue Springs senior Zach Hazen (39-8) after winning two decisions.
Four wrestlers are on track to win their fourth state championship. Whitfield’s Mike McAteer (126), Father Tolton’s Brock Mauller (152) seek their titles in Class 1. Kearney’s Clayton Singh (120) vies for his fourth in Class 3 and CBC senior Malik Johnson (126) in Class 4.
Five more wrestlers classes 1-4 are trying to win their third state titles.
In Class 3 team competition, Kearney (69 points) is in first place. Windsor (10th, 25 points), Hillsboro (15th, 19.5), De Soto (17th, 18) and Festus (41st, 40) round out the JCAA scores.
In Class 4, CBC is first with 74 points. Seckman (40.50) is sixth, Eureka (29) is 10th, Fox (6) is 33rd and Northwest (4) is 39th.
