County basketball teams have been competing in district tournaments this week in Classes 2 and 3. District tournaments for Classes 4 and 5 begin Saturday. Hillsboro hosts the boys and girls in Class 4 District 2.
Grandview’s girls entered the Class 3 District 3 tournament at Park Hills Central in West County as the No. 1 seed.
The Eagles beat Bourbon 67-20 in the first round Saturday but were eliminated from the tournament Wednesday after losing 41-37 to Steelville (No. 4). Grandview set a school record with 22 wins this season under first-year head coach Ronda Hubbard.
The Grandview boys (No. 8) lost 53-35 in the first round to top-seeded Central. The Eagles finished 3-21 and never recovered from the loss of star player Koby Klaus who was injured in the preseason.
Both Crystal City basketball teams were knocked out of Class 2 District 5 in the first round. The boys finished 7-17 after losing 49-39 to New Haven. The Hornet girls (8-18) fell 44-40 to Silex.
Herculaneum’s girls (17-6) remained alive in Class 3 District 4 at Valley Park with 81-42 win against Hancock Tuesday. The Blackcats play Principia (20-6) at 6:30 p.m. in the semifinals.
The Herky boys were 10-9 as of Feb. 6 but dropped their last five games of the season, including a 67-37 loss Monday to Principia.
