Brock Inman

Fox quarterback Brock Inman scores a touchdown against Northwest this season.

Fox won the Class 6 District 1 football championship by forfeit after Lindbergh had to pull out of Friday’s game in Arnold because several athletes are in quarantine because of COVID-19 concerns.

The Flyers are the second team from the District 1 tournament to forfeit because of the coronavirus after Kirkwood did before its game against St. Louis University High on Oct. 30.

The Warriors (9-1) will play the winner of De Smet and Francis Howell in the state semifinals on Nov. 20. Fox last reached the final four in 2008 but did not win a district title that year.

“From a personal standpoint our kids, staff and department realize this could have been us,” Fox activities director Scott Leuthauser said. “We knew it was going to be a great game regardless of the outcome. There’s a lot of sadness behind this because it’s out of our control.”

The Lindbergh School District released the following statement: Due to reasons related to COVID-19, the Lindbergh High School varsity football program has been suspended for the remainder of the 2020 season. The Flyers finished their season with a 5-1 record, including a win over SLUH in the Class 6 District 1 semifinals on Friday, Nov. 6.
