With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning of a 5-5 game, Herculaneum pitcher Jordan Duncan hit Jon Weik with a pitch and the Blue Jays walked off with a 6-5 victory in a Jefferson County Activities Association small-schools contest on Tuesday afternoon.
Weik was also the winning pitcher after he relieved Jacob Melton in the sixth inning and struck out the first two batters he faced. Levi Ebersoldt started on the mound for the Blue Jays, who improved to 6-5. Jefferson hasn’t lost to Herculaneum (3-1-1) since 2013.
“Coaches have had a lot of faith in me because I’ve had a rough couple of outings, but they put me back (on the mound) and when I throw strikes, good things happen,” Weik said.
Duncan was the losing pitcher, but he was impossible to keep of the bases when he batted. Duncan reached safely in all five plate appearances and was 3-for-3.
