Before the Herculaneum baseball team hosted Jefferson on Tuesday afternoon, the school’s 1999 state championship team was honored.
Several players and coaches, including head coach and Blackcat Hall of Fame member, Andy Runzi, were recognized for winning the school’s second state title.
The Blackcats' first title was in 1986 when they beat Affton to win the Class 3A championship under Rick Hart. Runzi played third base for Herky his freshman year in 1986.
Herculaneum beat Branson 4-1 at Simmons Field in Columbia in 1999 to win its second Class 3A crown. The baseball field at Herculaneum is named after Runzi.
