Northwest's Taylor Murphey wrestles Smithville senior Olivia Cummings in the second round of wrestlebacks at 136 pounds on Friday in Columbia. Murphey scored two points on a reversal with four seconds left in the third period to win 4-2 and stay alive in the three-day tournament.

Snow is falling outside of the Mizzou Arena in Columbia on Friday afternoon as the 89th boys and first girls wrestling championships continue into a second day.

The Lebanon girls lead the team competition with 38 points after the completion of the first and second round of wrestlebacks. De Soto and Northwest are tied for 23rd with nine points.

Fox senior Hailie Terry’s season came to and end Friday in the second round of wrestling backs at 103 pounds when she lost an 8-7 decision to Cameron freshman Celeste Greer. District champion Hunter Bullock, a junior at De Soto, was pinned in the second period by Ste. Genevieve junior Genevieve Nickelson in the second round of wrestlebacks at 131. Bullock, a district champion, ended the season with a record of 30-7. In the second round of wrestlebacks at 126, Seckman freshman Madison Conrad eliminated Northwest sophomore Emma Spencer with a 9-4 decision.

De Soto sophomore Jaycee Foeller will put her record of 33-0 on the line tonight in the 167-pound semifinals against Branson sophomore Erin Bohmont, who is 17-1. Foeller is the last of the nine female wrestlers in the county in the running for the county’s first girls state title.

The Class 3-4 boys quarterfinals and second-round wrestlebacks are underway with Whitfield (Class 1), Monett (Class 2), Neosho (Class 3) and Liberty (Class 4) leading the team competition.
