Festus Post 253 (24-9) beat Cape Girardeau Ford and Sons Post 63 (21-11) 9-1 on Wednesday night in the American Legion Zone 4 tournament at Whitey Herzog Field in Jackson.
Andrew Douglas pitched a complete game for Festus, which won its seventh straight game and plays Jackson tonight (July 20) at 7 p.m. Blain Prater will start for Festus on the hill tonight. Prater pitched a complete game in his last start on July 13 in a 9-1 district tournament win against Ste. Genevieve Post 150.
Against Cape, Festus was paced offensively by Prater’s two hits, which included a triple, two hits and a double by Sean McDowell and a two-run single by Jaden Courtois.
Ste. Gen (20-10) will try to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament today with a 4 p.m. game against Cape.
In the other Zone 4 game on Wednesday, Jackson Post 158 (21-19) beat Eureka Post 177 (23-10) 9-5. Eureka will play the survivor of the Ste. Gen/Cape game Friday at 4 p.m.
