Eureka’s volleyball team made school and state history tonight (Nov. 3).
The Wildcats swept Lafayette 25-23, 25-23 to win the Class 4 state championship at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau.
The victory gave Eureka program its first girls volleyball title, and the Wildcats are also the winner of the first volleyball championship match between schools from the same district. Eureka (31-8-3) and Lafayette (31-6-3) are in the Rockwood School District.
The trip to the final four this year was the first for Eureka, which had one district volleyball title in its history coming into this season. The Wildcats only district title before beating Northwest this year was in 1996.
