Sean Breeze

Sean Breeze coached the Crystal City boys basketball team for the last 11 years.

The Jefferson R-7 Board of Education at its meeting Wednesday night voted 6-0 to approve the hiring of Sean Breeze to be the varsity boys basketball coach.

Breeze was the head coach of the boys team at Crystal City for the last 11 years. Jefferson athletic director Jason Dreyer replaced Nic Zenker as the Blue Jays’ head coach in December after Zenker and the school agreed to part ways. Dreyer led Jefferson to a record of 15-4 as head coach and was named the Jefferson County Activities Association small-schools coach of the year.

Breeze coached the Hornets to three district championships, and in 2012 they finished 25-5 and reached the Class 3 quarterfinals.

Crystal City athletic director Ken Jones said Thursday the process of replacing Breeze could begin at the next school board meeting Tuesday.

“Today is really day one for us,” Jones said about hiring Breeze’s replacement.
