Herculaneum is the last county baseball team standing after the other 11 were eliminated in district tournaments this week.
The Blackcats improved to 12-5-1 this season after beating Grandview 6-5 on Wednesday night in the Class 3 District 4 semifinals at Heine Meine Field. Herculaneum, the No. 1 seed in the district, plays Hancock (No. 2) tonight in the district championship.
Errors, passed balls and wild pitches caused St. Pius X to unravel in its Class 3 District 3 final in a 6-3 loss against West County at Jefferson. The Lancers had won 16 games in a row before the loss and finished the season 19-3.
In girls soccer, the top two seeds will compete for the Class 3 District 2 championship tonight (Thursday) in Hillsboro. The No. 2 Hawks (16-10) host No. 1 Windsor (11-9) at 5:30 p.m. Hillsboro is the defending district champion and has played for the title four straight season.
