In De Soto SMCI’s American Legion baseball season opener on May 28, the recent De Soto graduate threw 101 pitches, scattered seven hits, walked two, struck out a pair of batters and allowed one run in a 4-1 win against Kirkwood. At the plate in De Soto’s first three games, Gibbs, who was a second team all-Jefferson County Activities Association large-schools selection this spring, batted .250, walked four times and had an on-base percentage of .625.
