The senior 6-foot middle hitter has helped lead the Lions to a 7-1 start this season. In a five-set win over Seckman on Sept. 15, Mathews had 17 kills, six aces and nine digs. The next day, Mathews had 14 kills on 15 attempts (.933) in a two-set victory over Washington. Northwest trailed the Blue Jays 24-21 in the second set when Mathews rotated to the front row in a 27-25 Lions win. She is among the St. Louis area leaders with just over four kills per game.
