Eureka home building company emphasizes air quality

Stockell Custom Homes and Construction clients can breathe easy when they move into their new homes.

Don Stockell, owner of the Eureka-based business, said his company pays close attention to the air quality in the homes it builds.

He said indoor air quality has become more important over the past year because the COVID-19 pandemic has drawn attention to the importance of air filtration systems.

“We take indoor air quality seriously,” said Stockell, whose business is at 201 Beverly St., Suite A, and serves west St. Louis County and parts of surrounding counties.

Stockell said each home his company builds includes a filtration system as part of its heating and cooling system. The filtration system tempers the air coming into the home to make it more energy efficient, and it keeps about 98 percent of allergens out of homes. In addition, an ultraviolet light kills viruses before they infiltrate a home.

He said the homes are well- insulated and are airtight, which helps control the indoor temperature and reduce energy bills.

“These new airtight homes need to be ventilated, and if you don’t, you create an unhealthy environment,” he said.

The idea of getting better quality air and keeping viruses at bay through the filtration systems has been a big selling point since the pandemic began in March 2020, Stockell said.

“It really grabs their attention,” he said. “We realized we should tout this louder because it has become more important to more people.”

Stockell said his business also has recently partnered with Essentially Modern Homes, a design firm that gives customers options for preplanned homes.

“It brings modern architecture and plans to the table,” Stockell said.
