William Thomas “Bill” McCredie, 87, of Arnold died May 19, 2019. Mr. McCredie attended East St. Louis High School, served in the Navy on the USS Porterfield, worked for Union Electric and then joined the Rock Community Fire Protection District as a training officer and retired as chief of the district in 1997. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, the National Association of Destroyer Veterans (Tin Can Sailors), and the Arnold Historical Society. He was born Nov. 11, 1931.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Joann; three daughters: Kim (James) Elmore of Lawrenceville, Ga., Dawn Collins (Jeff) Haumesser of Hillsboro and Terri (George) Hummel of Arnold; six grandchildren: Devon (David) Mues, Trevor Collins, Britney Collins, Kasey Hummel, Ian Elmore and Katherine Elmore; and two great-grandsons: Liam and Connor Mues.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, May 23, at Ziegenhein & Sons Funeral Home, 4830 Lemay Ferry Road, in south St. Louis County. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday, May 24, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to de Greeff Hospice or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Ziegenhein & Sons Funeral Home.
