William Robert Backof, 84, formerly of De Soto died Oct. 21, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson. Mr. Backof was a supervisor for AmerenUE, a veteran of the Army National Guard, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of De Soto Elks Lodge 689, Amvets Post 48 and De Soto Knights of Columbus. Born July 28, 1932, in De Soto, he was the son of the late Harry and Maria (Trunk) Backof. He was preceded in death by his wife: Earline (Blechle) Backof.
He is survived by a daughter: Barbara (Rick) Leonard of Mission Viejo, Calif.; a daughter-in-law: Linda Backof of St. Louis; and three grandchildren: Kristin, Kara and Kali Leonard.
He was preceded in death by a son: Robert Backof; and a brother: Charlie Backof.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 25, at Sacred Heart Church, 555 Bailey Road, in Crystal City, followed immediately by funeral services. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus.
