William Nicholas “Nick” Yates, 77, of High Ridge died May 14, 2015, at his home. Mr. Yates worked for the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, at the Nevada nuclear test site, for the Army Corps of Engineers and as a civil engineer for the Coast Guard. He owned Apartment and Home Security Systems and the Yates Antiques store. He volunteered wit the High Ridge Food Pantry and Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of the High Ridge Knights of Columbus. Born Oct. 28, 1937, in Hannibal, he was the son of the late E.J. and Mary Catherine (Losson) Yates.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Carolyn (Moyers) Yates; four children: William “Bill” “Scooter” (Tommy Cross) Yates Jr. of Columbia, S.C., Christopher Yates of High Ridge, Anthony M. (Deborah) Yates of High Ridge and Nicole (Gary) Chura of Rolla; five grandchildren: Hannah Yates, Tosha Yates, David Mauzey, Matthew Nicholas Yates and Austin Anthony Yates; and two siblings: Elbert James (Marsha) Yates III of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Carl Joseph (Lou) Yates of Hannibal.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday, May 18, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, at St. Anthony of Pudua Catholic Church, 3009 High Ridge Blvd. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill. Memorials may be made to the High Ridge Food Pantry or Habitat for Humanity. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
