William Joseph “Bill” Stiles, 87, of Hillsboro died Nov. 18, 2017, in St. Louis. Mr. Stiles was a retired cartographer for the U.S. government at the Defense Mapping Agency and was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Hillsboro. The former owner of Stiles Electronics, he earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois and enjoyed anything that had to do with electronics and sound systems. He worte extensively for many electronics publications and enjoyed playing the piano and organ. He was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Keytesville, the son of the late Josiah “Joe” and Esther (Kistler) Stiles.
He is survived by his wife: Margaret L. (Christy) Stiles of Hillsboro; five children: Darrell E. (Tracy) Stiles of Hillsboro, Daniel J. Stiles of Hugo, Okla., Kristi D. (Jeff) Williams of Sikeston, Robert D. Stiles of Lebanon and Timothy A. (Cathy) Stiles of Birch Run, Mich.; and eight grandchildren: Becky, Abby, Kalli, Jayci, Spencer, Alexander “Xander,” Bella, and William “Liam.”
Visitation is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 Fourth St.,in Hillsboro. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the funeral home. Burial is in the Peaceful Meadows Cemetery in Hillsboro.
