Pruett, Wanda

Wanda L. Pruett, 70, of Farmington, formerly of Festus, died Nov. 18, 2019, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Mrs. Pruett discovered a love and talent for music at an early age, and sang solo and ensemble music in church choirs and gospel quartets, and directed a ladies’ singing group. She earned a bachelor’s degree in music education and taught music for the next 20 years in the Buffalo, High Ridge, Fox and Central school districts. She later earned a specialist degree in administration and a master’s degree in guidance counseling, and worked as a guidance counselor in the Mehlville School District for almost a decade until her retirement in 2001. She was born April 3, 1949, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of the late Clyde H. and Leota M. (Schrock) Caby. 

She is survived by her husband of 46 years: Gary Lynn Pruett; two sons: Gary Ryan (Julie) Pruett and Nathan Lynn (Charlene) Pruett; five grandchildren: Nick, Alex, Rylie, Brock and Jaxon; a brother: Brad Caby; special family members William and Caren Black and Paula Caby; and many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister: Ramona Caby; and a brother: Bruce Caby.

Visitation is at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at noon Friday, Nov. 22, at First Baptist Church Herculaneum-Pevely, 1315 Abbey Lane, in Pevely, officiated by Pastor Dallas Bear and Pastor Marco Van Raalten. Burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery near Scopus. Arrangements are under the direction of Liley Funeral Home in Patton.
