Walden G. “W.G.” Moore, 74, of Hillsboro died Sept. 29, 2020, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Moore was retired from the Chrysler Auto Assembly Plant and was the owner and operator of Dry Creek Sand and Gravel, Curves, Mega Sun, and W.G.’s Outpost. He also considered himself a farmer. He was a member of the United Auto Workers; an honorary lifetime member of Amvets Post 48; and a member of Elks Lodge 689 for 38 years. He enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles with his boys, having attended the annual motorcycle rally in Sturgis, S.D., 17 times. Born July 4, 1946, in Malden, he was the son of the late Albert and Thelma (nee Haggard) Moore.
He is survived by his wife: Nancy (nee Williams) Beran-Moore of De Soto; five children: Darren “Big” Moore of Arnold, Derrek “Sleepy” (Debby) Moore of De Soto, Dion “Red” (Jeannie) Moore of Hillsboro, Damon “Goob” (Shelly) Moore of De Soto and Darla (Mike) Overstreet of Marthasville; their mother: Sharon Moore; two stepsons: Dr. Bradley (Tia) Beran of Cape Girardeau and Brandon (Emily Steward) Beran of Festus; a sister: Denna Fetters of Farmington; five brothers-in-law: Mike (Karen) Williams of Festus, Jerry Williams of De Soto, Tim Williams of De Soto, Shawn Williams of De Soto and Alex Young of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren: Erika, Nick, Garet, Hailey, Chesley, Olivia, Ema, Ely, Nolan, Natalee and Nash; and one great-grandchild: Audrey.
He was preceded in death by six brothers: Paul Moore, Wayne Moore, Kenny Moore, Dickey Moore, Jimmy Moore and Mitchell Moore; two sisters: Alveena Vaugh and Carolyn Murphy; and a brother-in-law: Patrick Williams.
Visitation is at 1 p.m. and a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto, officiated by Cliff Castle. Burial is in the Oakland Baptist Cemetery in Mammoth. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 15455 Conway Road, Chesterfield, 63017.
