Vivian Veronica DeGeare, 100, of Festus died Feb. 10, 2017, at de Greeff Hospice at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis County. Mrs. DeGeare was a glass inspector for Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Crystal City. She a member of Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City, where she was a chapel volunteer and was involved with the Ladies Sodality, and was involved with Scout Mothers. Born Sept. 15, 1916, in Festus, she was the daughter of the late John Bernard and Sadie Mary (Boyer) Esch. She was preceded in death by her husband: Andrew H. DeGeare.
She is survived by three sons: Paul (Joy) DeGeare Sr. of Arnold, Richard (the late Frannie) DeGeare of Festus and David (Melody) DeGeare of Maryland Heights; four daughters: Donna (the late Claude) Keathley of Crystal City, Sharon (Clarence Placht) Schmidt of St. Louis, Phyllis Polk of Crystal City and Margaret (Bill) Weibking of Festus; two sons-in-law: Dennis (Debbie) Warden of Hematite and Richard Schmidt of Kirkwood; a brother: Richard (Joan) Esch of Festus; a sister-in-law: Bonnie Esch of Festus; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and special friend, the Rev. Ted Pieper. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Beverly Warden; two brothers: Bernard Esch and John Pershing “Bud” (Valle “Chick”) Esch; and four sisters: Ruth Clifton, Margie Coleman, Alice Curry and Bernice Chamberlain.
Visitation is scheduled from 3-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins, in Festus. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Sacred Heart Church, officiated by Father Maes. Burial is in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
