Butler, Virginia

Virginia L. (Millot) Butler, 94, of Crystal City, formerly of Cahokia, Ill., died Dec. 28, 2016, at Crystal Oaks Skilled Nursing Center in Crystal City. Mrs. Butler was retired from W.T. Grant in Cahokia and was a former member of the Cahokia Senior Citizens.

Born Nov. 5, 1922, in Pana, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Vern and Bertha (Pearson) Millot. She was preceded in death by her husband: Charles “Gilbert” Butler Sr.

She is survived by three children: Charlene Talley of Festus, Thomas E. (Linda Diane) Butler of Bonne Terre and Richard L. (Janet) Butler Sr. of Columbia, Ill.; a brother, Thomas S. Millot of Belton; a sister-in-law, Doris Millot of Belton; 16 grandchildren: John, Chuck, Dennis, Denise, Joyce, Christina, Melissa, Karen, Michele, Dawn, Chad, Richard, Jonathan “Ryan,” Dawn, Tammy and Michelle; 16 great-grandchildren: Chuck, Sarah, Emily, Tosha, Nick, Christopher, Lindsay, Rachel, Drake, Cole, Ian, Oliver, Samantha, Mounia, Charlie and Jacoby; and eight great-great-grandchildren: Mya, Paris, Chuck, Savannah, Christopher, Reagan, Beau and Jaxon.

She was preceded in death by a son: Charles G. Butler Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Linda Sue Butler; a son-in-law, Charles Talley; a sister, Marva Elaine Reed; a grandson, Robert K. Avis; and a great-great-granddaughter: Ellis Cumback.

A memorial gathering is planned for noon and a memorial service for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Braun Family Funeral Home in Columbia, Ill., officiated by Carolyn Steckenrider. Burial is in the Valhalla Cemetery in Belleville, Ill. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were under the direction of Braun Family Funeral Home.
