Smith, Violet

Violet E. Heffron Smith, 89, of O’Fallon, formerly of De Soto, died Jan. 18, 2019, at the de Greeff Hospice House in south St. Louis County. Mrs. Smith worked for Oakes Five & Dime, Fo Jo Studio and Brown Shoe Co., and was a beautician at the Best of Beauty Salon, all in De Soto. She was a member of the De Soto Christian Church, where she served as a pianist for 63 years. Born Feb. 10, 1929, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Edith Virginia (Hamilton) and Joseph Wilkinson. She was preceded in death by two husbands: James Wallace Heffron, to whom she was married from June 27, 1946, until his death in 1966; and Marvin E. Smith, whom she married in 1979 and who died in 1982.

She is survived by three children: Kathryn Diane (Tom) Brooks of O’Fallon, Gary Wayne (Judy) Heffron of De Soto and Randall Alan (Nancy) Heffron of Blackwell; a daughter-in-law: Deb Heffron of O’Fallon; a brother-in-law: John Speth of Ellisville; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son: Ronald Lee Heffron; a sister: Lois Speth; and a brother: Edwin (the late Grace) Wilkinson.

Visitation is at 9 a.m. and a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto, officiated by Mark Wilkinson. Burial is in the Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
