Verlon Ray “Pedo” Govro, 92, of Festus died Oct. 29, 2022, at his home. Mr. Govro was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a retired truck driver with CES Trucking and the Jefferson County Parks Department. He was a life member of VFW Post 3777 and American Legion Post 253 and served with their funeral honor guards. He was a member of Amvets Post 42 and the Community Improvement Association in De Soto. Born April 14, 1930, in Bonne Terre, he was the son of the late Gladys (Ferguson) and Henry “Bill” Govro. He was preceded in death by his wife: Lorraine Joyce “Chickie” (Smith) Govro.
He is survived by a daughter: Margaret (Robert) Jones of Bonne Terre; three sons: Lonnie (LaDonna) Govro, Dale Govro and Everett Govro, all of Festus; a sister: Earline (the late Tom) Pruitt of De Soto; 10 grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son: Randy Govro; a grandson: Keith Govro; and great-grandson: Collin Whitley; four sisters: Eleanor (the late Bob) Rhineberger, Janet (the late Jack) Manning, Patsy (the late Charles) Evans and Marilyn “Peggy” Compton; and a brother: Clifford “Bud” (the late Cindy) Govro.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until a funeral service at noon Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Burial with full military honors is in St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
