Varena Doris Wells, 84, of De Soto died Nov. 8, 2018, at her home. Mrs. Wells was a certified medical technician and a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She loved volunteer work, reading, camping and gardening. Born Oct. 23, 1934, in Richwoods, she was the daughter of Alean (Pashia) and Charles Emily. She was preceded in death by her husband: Raymond Wells.
She is survived by two sons: Donald Harshaw of Merrillville, Ind., and John (Laurie) Harshaw of Canton; a daughter: Donna Akers of Fowlerville, Mich.; a sister: Carol (David) Berry of De Soto; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Harold Emily, Cecil Emily, Charles Emily and Herbert Emily; four sisters: Goldie Morris, Geneva Bartinikas, Virginia Wideman and Blanche Donahue; and two great-grandsons: John and Jacob Harkema.
Visitation is scheduled from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 North Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 11514 Hwy. A, in Richwoods. Burial is in the Horine Cemetery in Richwoods. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
