The Rev. Warren Drinkwater, C.Ss.R., 84, of Liguori died Aug. 31, 2020, at the St. Clement Redemptorist Mission Community in Liguori. Father Warren was born Aug. 24, 1936, in New Orleans, La., the son of the late Genevieve Rose (Hornsby) and William Livingstone Drinkwater. He made his first profession of vows in 1957 and was ordained to the priesthood on Dec. 27, 1962. He spent the first decade of his priesthood in parish ministry at churches in Louisiana and Kentucky serving as juvenile chaplain/teacher at St. Gerard Majella Parish in Baton Rouge, La.
After a three-year stint as an itinerant preacher in Chicago, he returned to the South, devoting the remaining 34 years of his public ministry to preaching parish missions and promoting Liguorian Magazine at parishes throughout the country. He retired to Liguori in 2015. Father Warren was known for his exceptional conversational skills and pleasant personality.
He is survived by two brothers: Malcolm (Irene) Drinkwater of El Cerrito, Calif., and William Drinkwater of Picayune, Miss.; a niece: Martha (Michael) Drinkwater-Levy of Albany, Calif.; and two great-nieces: twins Eva Marie and Maya Helena Levy.
A private funeral service was held Sept. 3 in the St. Clement Redemptorist Chapel in Liguori .
Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 4, followed by burial in the Liguori Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
