Suzanna M. "Suzy" Hanley, 68, Hillsboro

Suzanna M. “Suzy” Hanley, 68, of Hillsboro died Oct. 20, 2021, at the Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. Mrs. Hanley grew up in Cahokia, Ill., and was relied upon to help care for her younger siblings. In 1970, when she was 17, her family moved to Toledo, Ill., and while she was a senior at Cumberland High School, she met her husband-to-be, Riley “Dean” Hanley, and they married June 11, 1971, in Toledo, Ill. Mrs. Hanley worked at RR Donnelley’s in Mattoon, Ill., while her husband finished college. Later, while raising their two children, Mrs. Hanley earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Wright State University and became a registered nurse. She worked for Kindred Hospital in St. Louis for the past 29 years, touching the lives of countless patients and coworkers. She was a hard worker and will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and willingness to help others. She loved spending time with her family. Born June 10, 1953, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nancy (Batey) Dixon.

In addition to her husband of 50 years, she is survived by a daughter: Amanda Hammett of Dittmer; a son: Josh (Molly) Hanley of Mexico, Mo.; four grandchildren: Catherine, Connor, Riley and Lauren; five brothers: Daniel (Barbara) Fee of Fresno, Calif., Michael Dixon of Dittmer, David Dixon of Moore, Okla., Tommy Dixon of Norman, Okla., and John (Kristy) Dixon of Del City, Okla.; three sisters: Patricia (Glen) Coles of Oklahoma City, Okla., Sandy (Randy) Simeroth of Purcell, Okla., and Nancy (Damon) Burnett of Edmond, Okla., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by three infant children: Melissa, John and Laura Hanley.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 30) at the Open Door Baptist Church, 205 S. New York St., in Toledo, Ill. Burial will be in the Jewett Cemetery, with Brother Leon Hanley officiating. Memorials may be made to the Open Door Baptist Church in Toledo, Ill., c/o the Meyer Funeral Home - Bishop Chapel, 115 E. Lincoln Drive, Greenup, IL 62428. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meyer Funeral Home - Bishop Chapel.
