Meany, Beatrice

Sr. Beatrice Meany, 91, of the Redemptoristine Nuns at Liguori died Dec. 4 after a long illness. She had been at St. Andrew’s at Francis Place in Eureka and under Seasons Hospice care.  She was born on March 27, 1925, in Gardner, Mass., and worked for many years nursing in the U.S. and as a lay missionary in Nigeria. She entered the contemplative monastery at Liguori in 1977 and made her religious vows on January 17, 1980. She served the community as sub-prioress, novice mistress and councillor. For a number of years she worked in the sewing department on ceremonial capes for the Knight and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre. She enjoyed answering prayer requests that came to the monastery and was an accomplished gardener. She fostered her contemplative life by prayer and silence, and her creativity led her into all sorts of projects from carpentry to poster designs.

She is survived by a brother: John (Betty) Meany of Gardner; five nephews; and a numbers of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral Mass and burial were held Dec. 9 at the Sisters’ cemetery in Liguori, officiated by Father John Schmidt. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
