Shelba Jean Hill, 75, of Festus, formerly of Herculaneum, died Feb. 20, 2018, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Hill had worked as a clerk at the former Herculaneum IGA store, Venture Store in Crystal City, Howard Industries in Festus, and the Teamsters camp in Pevely. She was a member of the former Assumption Catholic Church in Herculaneum and a member of Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus. She loved to dance, play pitch, fish and spend time with family and friends. Born May 3, 1942, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Bernette (Merseal) and Roy Albert “Butter” Simpson.
She is survived by her husband: Lawrence “Larry” Hill; two sons: Shawn (Julie) Hill of Cartersville, Ga., and Dusty (Tina Louden) Hill of De Soto; three grandchildren: Taylor, Erin and Tyler Hill; a sister: Rebecca “Becky” (the late William “Bill”) Wildish of Festus; a special uncle: Pete Simpson of Herculaneum; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents-in-law: Margaret and Lawrence Hill.
Funeral Mass was held Feb. 26 at Our Lady Catholic Church in Festus, officiated by Father Jeffrey Maassen. Burial was in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Herculaneum. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
